The Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual plus (2SLGBTQIA+) Seniors Housing Toolkit is a guide for housing developers and providers which overviews potential components to a small-scale building plan and integral changes necessary to the seniors housing processes to enhance the lived experience of 2SLGBTQIA+ Seniors. This tool is intended as an inspirational guidebook for those looking to make their residences and communities welcoming and affirming to all, regardless of sexual or gender orientation.
Use this report as a reference when considering new approaches to processes and built form modifications of retirement residences to create affirming and welcoming spaces.
2SLGBTQ+ Seniors Housing Podcast
Produced as a part of the 360 Degree City podcast, the 2SLGBTQ+ Seniors Housing Lab podcast series explores issues of discrimination, ageism, and isolation in senior’s co-housing environments in collaboration with the 2SLGBTQ+ seniors community in Edmonton. How can out-of-the-box thinking be leveraged to find feasible and innovative affordable housing solutions that meet the needs of Canadians who don’t fit within traditional parameters?
The first episode of the series begins to explore issues of discrimination, ageism, and isolation in housing for seniors in the 2SLGBTQ+ community with Eric Storey, of Edmonton Pride Seniors Group. Eric is actively engaged in the 2SLGBTQ+ seniors community in Edmonton, where he volunteers his time and experience as a social worker, a queer senior, and a passionate community member to advocate for the experiences and issues faced by 2SLGBTQ+ seniors in housing.
